From June 18 to 19, the second meeting of the first academic committee of the Key Laboratory of Sturgeon Genetics and Breeding of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was successfully held at Sturgeon Technology.
This conference fully implemented the construction purpose of the laboratory “open sharing, based on innovation”. Relying on the open industry-university-research platform of the ministerial key laboratory, it brought together relevant leaders from the Fisheries Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Quzhou City and Kecheng District, as well as Academician Gui Jianfang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician Liu Shaojun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, More than 40 top experts from key universities and research institutions across the country discussed the innovative development plan of the sturgeon seed industry.

1. Deepen cooperation and build industrial cornerstones together
On the morning of June 18, the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and Sturgeon Technology held a series of signing ceremonies under the witness of various expert leaders. Before the signing ceremony, President Cui Guohui of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences delivered a speech reviewing the nearly 30-year cooperation between the two sides. The signing agreement includes the strategic cooperation agreement between the Chinese Academy of Water Sciences and Sturgeon Technology, the Chinese Academy of Water Sciences and Sturgeon Technology Achievement Award Fund Agreement, and the strategic cooperation agreement between the Heilongjiang Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Water Sciences and Sturgeon Technology. It aims to further deepen the company’s cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Water Sciences and the Heilongjiang Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Water Sciences and Sturgeon Technology. It marks a solid step taken by the laboratory in promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and collaborative innovation.

2. Field visits to experience the pulse of the industry
After the signing ceremony, under the personal guidance of Wang Bin, Chairman of Sturgeon Technology, the experts and leaders visited the Sturgeon Technology sturgeon exhibition hall and modern breeding base. Chairman Wang Bin gave a detailed introduction to the company’s development history, industrial layout, core technologies and product system, focusing on showcasing the company’s outstanding achievements in sturgeon germplasm resource protection, improved seed selection and breeding, healthy breeding model innovation and caviar processing. At the breeding base, experts conducted on-site inspections of the recirculating aquaculture system, intelligent management platform and sturgeon populations at different growth stages, and highly praised the practice of Sturgeon Technology in promoting industrial standardization, greening and intelligent development.

3. Summarizing Outlook and Building Consensus on Development
After the visit, Hu Hongxia, deputy director of the laboratory and researcher at the Institute of Fishery Sciences, Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, delivered the laboratory’s 2024 annual work report, comprehensively reporting on the laboratory’s status in platform construction, scientific research progress, results output and future planning. The members of the academic committee and expert leaders at the meeting carefully reviewed the report and put forward valuable constructive opinions and suggestions, which pointed out the direction for the next development of the laboratory.

4. Open forums stimulate academic innovation
As an important vehicle for opening up the institute, the institute’s lecture hall held a two-day cutting-edge seminar. Experts and scholars from many top research institutes and universities across the country, as well as corporate R&D backbones, presented a number of wonderful special reports, including Professor Zhang Qin’s “Genome Selection and Its Application Report” from Shandong Agricultural University, Professor Xu Peng of Xiamen University’s “Exploration and Practice Report on Fish Genome Selection Breeding” and Associate Researcher Zhang Yan of the Biotechnology Center of the Chinese Academy of Water Sciences’ “Analytical Report on the Genetic Mechanism of Carp Ovarian Maturity and Egg Carrying Volume” cover core sturgeon breeding technologies, disease prevention and control, processing and preservation, Key links in the entire industry chain, including recirculating aquaculture and digital applications.

The atmosphere at the report site was warm. Academician Gui Jianfang, Director of the Academic Committee, Academician Liu Shaojun, Deputy Director, President Zhang Xianliang and participating experts gave in-depth comments and discussions on the reports, providing important guidance for the further deepening and improvement of the project.
